If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my years around Arabian horses, it’s this: nothing compares to seeing them in person. Their kindness. Their athleticism. The way they lean into people with a soft eye and a curious mind. You can describe it all day long, but when someone meets an Arabian? That’s the moment they understand why we love this breed so fiercely.
That’s exactly why I decided to join the Arabian Horse Association’s Discovery Farm program. For anyone who isn’t familiar, the program connects the public—especially newcomers—to Arabian farms willing to share their horses and their knowledge. It’s a simple idea with powerful potential: open your barn doors, introduce people to the breed, and play a small but meaningful role in shaping the future of Arabian horse enthusiasts.
Why Discovery Farms Matter
We all know our breed is full of incredible ambassadors—professionals, amateurs, youth, beloved seniors, backyard treasures, National Champions, and everything in between. But people outside of our circle don’t always get the chance to meet these horses. Discovery Farms help change that. They offer a safe, friendly place for curious individuals to experience Arabians firsthand, ask questions, learn, and maybe even begin their own horse journey.
And honestly? Every positive interaction matters. Every hand that brushes a shiny Arabian coat… every child who gets their first quiet nuzzle… every adult who suddenly realizes, “I didn’t know Arabians could be like this.”
These moments add up. They shape opinions, build interest, and help grow our community.
How Do We Make This Program Truly Successful?
I’m thrilled to be part of it, but I also know that signing up is just step one. To really help the program shine, I’d love suggestions, ideas, and shared experiences from others who have already participated.
Some initial thoughts:
- Showcase great examples of the breed.
The more we can get high-quality, well-mannered, well-cared-for Arabians in front of people, the better. Whether it’s a dependable 18-year-old lesson saint or a gleaming futurity hopeful, let’s emphasize the breed’s versatility and kindness. - Create welcoming, beginner-friendly experiences.
Think simple introductions, tours, grooming sessions, and basic educational moments. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just connection. - Lean into storytelling.
People remember stories far more than stats. Let visitors hear about your horses’ personalities, their quirks, their accomplishments, their transformations. - Keep safety top-notch.
A calm, organized visit builds trust in both you and the breed.
But I want to hear from others: What has worked for you? What made your Discovery Farm events special? What should every new participant know?
A Call to All Arabian Ambassadors
Now more than ever, it’s important we get quality examples of the Arabian horse in front of the public, whenever and however we can. Videos, photos, thoughtful social posts, open barns, local demonstrations, school presentations, Discovery Farm visits… every touchpoint matters.
The Arabian horse has so much to offer. Programs like this help ensure that more people get to see the truth about our breed: not just beautiful, but intelligent, athletic, versatile, loyal, and deeply connected to the people who love them.
I’m excited to do my part, and I hope this inspires others to join in, share ideas, and help make Discovery Farms a vibrant and successful gateway into the world of Arabian horses.
